Concentrated Advanced Course on

Queueing Network Theory

From Tuesday, November 10, 1998 to Friday, November 13, 1998 MaPhySto will organize a Concentrated Advanced Course on Queueing Network Theory.

The course will be given by Professor Jim Dai, who is visiting MaPhySto in the period October 1 - November 15,1998. The lectures series will focus on Stability of Multiclass Queueing Networks.

Multiclass queueing networks are used to model complex manufacturing and telecommunication systems. Stability of such a network is directly related to the maximum achievable throughput (or production rate in a manufacturing system). The stability study is one of the most active research areas in queueing networks. This research is mathematically challenging and has a lot of practical implications.

This short course will cover a variety of topics in the stability of queueing networks. Topics include multiclass queueing networks, fluid models, unstable networks, stability regions, entropy Lyapunov functions, global stability regions, and piecewise linear and linear Lyapunov functions.
